Garage Music - What is Speed Garage Music? |
| The support and growth of
the underground garage scene via the pirates seemed to have
come about due to the fact the pirates had gotten bored
with Jungle Many of them were now playing Garage instead.
But one Station that can not be held in this derision are
3 shows within its format. All on Kiss 100fm.... London
|
| Paul "Trouble
Anderson Garage show is one, Sarah HB and Bobbi and Steve
Garage Shows are the others. Mostly all the Drum
'n' Bass stations pirate stations have either come to a
halt or have become "Speed garage stations". |
Ez add from Freek fm (Pirate
of course adds....) "The basslines really
took
off after Armand's 'Sugar Is Sweeter' and people who used
to make really soulful tracks in the past are now covering
all angles. Drum 'n' bass didn't get stale as such - I
do still listen to it - but when this new style crossed
into underground garage, it was that new sound everyone
was looking for. It's finally here and everyone's on it;
it's easy to relate and dance to! You can see a split
in the crowds between the newcomers, who prefer all the
dark stuff with the jungle basslines from the likes of
RIP and Armand and aren't into the vocals at all, and
the people who've been into it for a while who are into
both the basslines and the full vocals too."
|
As with all new and exciting
scenes, there is always a flock of producers who are sure
to jump on the bandwagon.. Brian from the leading
Underground Garage label, Catch Productions regularly
sees people from other scenes trying to get into this
one."They're not producing material at
the same standard of quality that we all work to. They're
what I call the "dub plate crew" who will knock
up a track at the weekend, cut it and that's it! It's
up to the producers who lead this scene to take it to
the next level so that it doesn't have a burn-out in six
month's time".

Studio
work......DJ's?
It's no surprise that the DJs, who
are regularly spinning the tunes and guiding the scene from
the front-line, should find themselves in the studio creating
the next wave of underground anthems.
